Description
MESSY WAVES original painting is a rustic, refurbished, repurposed painting and frame. This was an experiment with acrylic medium coating to give texture, greater distortion, more visual confusion. The painting surface and the frame were found and imperfect. This image (semi abstract waves out to the horizon) is meant to work with the flaws of the materials, while being enhanced by them at the same time.
The layers of medium on top the oil sticks pop the color, while distorting and blurring the view; they were applied haphazardly and dried at different times, intentionally not meant to create one smooth finish . The interior part of this frame around this image is chopped up without square, precise, clean lines. All of this gives the feel of looking through a dilapidated window frame and through distorted, worn, aged glass from coastal wind, storms, weather, temperatures.
