Description
MESSY WAVES is a rustic, refurbished, repurposed painting and frame. This was an experiment with acrylic medium coating to give texture, greater distortion, more visual confusion. The painting surface and the frame were found and imperfect. This image (semi abstract waves out to the horizon) is meant to work with the flaws of the materials, while being enhanced by them at the same time.
The layers of medium on top the oil sticks pop the color, while distorting and blurring the view; they were applied haphazardly and dried at different times, intentionally not meant to create one smooth finish . The interior part of this frame around this image is chopped up without square, precise, clean lines. All of this gives the feel of looking through a dilapidated window frame and through distorted, worn, aged glass from coastal wind, storms, weather, temperatures.

MESSY WAVES is full of vibrant blue and green color, constantly changing with the light and clouds in the sky; full of energetic messy waves, breaking far back out toward horizon, into the swell.
This oil stick painting -like the others -is created 'freehand'; the oil sticks were applied directly with hands/fingers. No brushes nor tools/instruments are used to apply the medium. They are meant to be vibrant, expressive images- not precise nor realistic. This style helps keep the waves, water, sand more semi abstract and distorted, and about more about bold shapes, color, space. These wave and water images represent shape and color and the energy of the water, waves, shoreline, weather. This is original art that borderlines on 'raw art', folk art, outsider art.
